The Student Union (or whatever organization is on the administration side of clubs) can sometimes have extremely useful resources. Here are some tips:
- Get a copy of any booklet that the Student Union produces for clubs. Sometimes these aren’t very helpful, but sometimes they can be extremely helpful.
- Find out what concrete resources are available to you. For instance:
- Rooms to meet in
- Tables and chairs for publicity events
- AV equipment
- Printing and copying
- Permanent email address for your group
- See if there are any events and/or awareness-raising weeks organized by Student Affairs which you might be able to partner with. You may be able to get free publicity & resources through these!
- Find out if there is a contact list for other clubs. You can get in touch with other clubs and check their meeting and event times — teaming up with them for certain activities and events is a great way to do outreach within a slightly new demographic, with a uniquely captive audience.
- Make sure you’re on all the relevant university club/student union mailing lists, and stay up to date by reading their announcements thoroughly
- Check what sources of funding/grants are available for student groups. (For more on this, see How to: get funding & sponsorships.)
